Pada kesempatan sebelumnya kita sudah mempelajari mengenai masalah kalimat langsung dan tidak langsung dalam bahasa inggris dikenal sebagai Direct and Indirect speech, dimana dalam jenis kalimat tersebut penutur sebagai pihak pertama, si penerima disebut pihak kedua dan orang yang menutur kan kembali merupakan pihak ke tiga. Berikut ini adalah beberapa bentuk pola kalimat yang mengalami perubahan, dalam segi pola kalimat, kata ganti, keterangan waktu dan keterangan tempat. Jika induk kalimat langsung (direct speech) dalam bentuk lampau (past tense), maka kalimat tak langsung (indirect speech) mengalami perubahan bentuk lampau (past tense) sebagai berikut:

- Direct Speech : Finka said me,”I come here on Saturday night.”
Indirect Speech : Finka said me that she came there on Saturday night
- Direct Speech : Dino said me, “My father is sick.”
Indirect Speech : Dino said me that his father was sick.”
The Present Continuous Tense è The Past Continuous Tense

- Direct Speech : Joshua said John,”I am writing now.”
Indirect Speech : Joshua said John that he was writing then
- Direct Speech : Mr Huda said me, “You are waiting in the bus stop.”

The Present Perfect Continuous è The Past Perfect Continuous

- Direct Speech : Hendri said me,”I have been talking about you.”
Indirect Speech : Hendri said me that you have been talking about me
- Direct Speech : Mr Huda said me, “My son has been sleeping.”

The Simple Past Tense è The Past Perfect Tense

- Direct Speech : My mom said me,”I cooked an hour ago.”
Indirect Speech : My mom said me that he had cooked an hour before
- Direct Speech : Mrs. Dwi said me,”You did the math in my home.”
Indirect Speech : Mrs. Dwi said me that I had done the math in her home.”
The Past continuous tense è The Past Perfect continuous tense

- Direct Speech : My dad said me,”I was fixing the car.”
Indirect Speech : My dad said me that he had been fixing the car
- Direct Speech : Mrs. Dwi said me,”Dara was not calling me.”
Indirect Speech : Mrs. Dwi said me that Dara had been not calling her
The present Future Tense è The Past Future Tense
Perhatikan contoh kalimatnya dibawah ini:
- Direct Speech : My dad said me,”I will go to Lampung.”
Indirect Speech : My dad said me that he would go to Lampung.”
- Direct Speech : Dinar told me,”We will follow you.”
Indirect Speech : Dinar told me that they would follow me
The Past Future Tense è The Past Perfect Future Tense
Perhatikan contoh kalimatnya dibawah ini:
- Direct Speech : My dad said me,”I would go to Pringsewu.”
Indirect Speech : My dad said me that he would had gone to Pringsewu.”
- Direct Speech : Dinar told me,”We wouldl follow you.”
Indirect Speech : Dinar told me that they would had followed me
