Pada kesempatan yang lalu kita sudah membahas mengenai yes-no question dimana jenis kalimat Tanya ini digunakan untuk menanyakan sebuah pertanyaan yang dianggap penting, namun jawaban yang dibutuhkan hanya jawaban singkat yaitu berupa persetujuan “ya” dan penolakan “tidak”.
Pada hari yang sangat cerah ini kita akan membahas lawan dari yes-no question yaitu WH question, berbeda dengan lawannya bahwa WH question digunakan untuk menanyakan sebuah pertanyaan dengan jawaban yang panjang (bisa berupa alasan, alamat, nama, cara dan lain sebagainya).
Pada jenis kalimat Tanya ini kita tidak lepas dari kata Tanya (what, wherem when, why, which, whose, whom dan lain-lain) yang digunakan diawal kalimat lalu biasanya disusul dengan “tobe, kta kerja bantu/auxiliary verb ataupun modal” Berikut ini penjelasannya.
1. Kalimat Tanya yang diikuti oleh “tobe”
Perhatikan contoh kalimatnya dibawah ini:
- direct speech : Mom said me, “what is it ?”
indirect speech : Mom said me what it was
- direct speech : Ana said the policeman, “Where is the nearest post office from here?”
indirect speech : Ana said the policeman Where the nearest post office was from there
- direct speech : Welly said mom,” when was I born?”
indirect speech : Welly said mom when he had been born
- direct speech : Andri said Awang, “How were the windows broken?”
indirect speech : Andri said Awang How the windows had been broken
- direct speech : Novi said Dewi, “Which has been fixed?”
indirect speech : Novi said Dewi Which had been fixed
2. Kalimat Tanya yang diikuti oleh “modal”
Perhatikan contoh kalimatnya dibawah ini:
- direct speech : Dad said me, “what will you do ?”
indirect speech : Dad said me what I would do
- direct speech : Maidy said the nurse, “Where can I buy the medicine near here?”
indirect speech : Ana said the policeman Where he could buy the medicine near there
- direct speech : Zahiri said mom,” when may I leave this ceremony?”
indirect speech : Zahiri said mom when he might leave that ceremony
- direct speech : Wawan said Mirna, “How can We go to Jakarta?”
indirect speech : Wawan said Mirna How they could go to Jakarta
- direct speech : Kadek said Vita, “Which will you choose, an orange or an apple?”
indirect speech :Kadek said Vita Which she would choose an orange or an apple
3. Kalimat Tanya yang diikuti oleh “auxiliary verb”
Perhatikan contoh kalimatnya dibawah ini:
- direct speech : Dad said me, “what did you do yesterday ?”
indirect speech : Dad said me what I had done the day before
- direct speech : Yenny said Tia, “Where does your father bring you this dictionary to school?”
indirect speech : Yenny said Tia Where Tia’s father brought her that dictionary to the school
- direct speech : Indah said Erly,” when have you wrapped this gift ?”
indirect speech : Indah said Erly when Erly had wrapped that gift
- direct speech : Vivi said Miftah, “How did you come here?”
indirect speech : Wawan said Mirna How he had come there
- direct speech : Kadek said Vita, “Which did you choose, an orange or an apple?”
indirect speech :Kadek said Vita Which she had chosen an orange or an apple
